The American Graffiti Movie

A Look At Teenage Life In 1962 California

Milner’s Coupe will always remain one of “America’s” famous “Hot Rods”. brought to life in the “American Graffiti” a film by George Lucas. The film which is a study of the cruising and early Rock ‘n’ Roll cultures prior to the Vietnam War.

The film reflects a simpler time. A time when the world was not moving so fast paced. The most important things in life were “Sock Hops”, “Zit Cream”, “Hot Rods” and enough gas to make a loop on the circuit.

Milner’s Coupe

A Good Example of a 60’s Hot Rod.

John Milner’s Coupe is a good example of what “Hot Rods” being built in the 1960’s looked like. No fenders or running boards probably because by the time it got into the hands of a teenage “Hot Rodder” they would have been bent, cracked or already missing. A filled cowl because they were a common place for leaks. A Chopped Top because they looked “Cool”. Hot Rods were simple, with not a lot of creature comfort. Just some shiny Yellow Paint, a little chrome and the sound of Raw Horse Power.

Which one was winning?

Milner’s Coupe or Bob Falfa’s 55 Chevy?

Get any group of “American Graffiti” fans together and ask who was winning and you will get mixed opinions. Some will say Milner’s Coupe, while other will swear “Bob Falfa’s 55 Chevy” was clearly ahead.

Ultimately Falfa lost control and John Milner’s Coupe crossed the finish line. However do not feel too bad for the 55 Chevy, it won a lot of races in another film called “Two Lane Black Top”.
